Just
warming up

If you're ever in Phillipsburg and have
the chance to catch the rock band "Defining Structure" at a
local club, grab it.
"Yeah, we're all splitting up," explains
the guitarist, William J. Reid. "Going our different ways
after high school."
Will, as he likes to be called, is
heading to Dartmouth, the next step toward what he hopes
might be a career in business. Or maybe not.
"No specific subject sparks anything in
me yet," says Will. "I am still very much undecided about
what I want to study, what I want to become."
He already is The Star-Ledger Scholar for
Warren County, the top student in a senior class of 379
students, a young man who scored a perfect 1600 on the
SAT.
"Will's a great kid," says his math
teacher, George Chilmonik. "Very creative. Not aggressive at
all. Just a brilliant young man."
He also has a mean back hand. He's first
singles on the varsity tennis team. And he's a member of the
high school's ski club. Will also participates in "Relay for
Life," a fund- raising activity that supports cancer
research.
To raise money for dates, he holds two
part-time jobs, pumping gas at a local station and stocking
shelves at a liquor store.
His favorite activity is the rock band.
But he's got a realistic attitude toward it.
"The key is getting your priorities
straight," says Will. "It's just too easy to get caught up
in dreams of fame. There are better ways to spend your
time."
Will's father, James, is a surgeon. His
mother, Anne, is treasurer of Moravian College in Bethlehem,
Penn. He has two younger brothers.
